Paper Minds - Part III
The warrior Antonio
Kevin called Victoria into the kitchen where he had prepared a meal. He was always the one to cook on a Tuesday but the days when Victoria cooked were best because she was a much better cook. He had prepared 2 large plates, upon which laid two poorly displayed meals. In the centre of the plate was a large block of scrambled egg, seasoned with lots of pepper, around which rested 4 half-pieces of toast, buttered right up to the edges. Despite its simplicity, the meal was actually very delicious-looking. Kevin looked down at the two meals, half-smiled in contentment and sat down to await the arrival of Victoria, who then walked through the large wooden sliding doors and joined him. She saw his meal and giggled; he smiled with her and then gestured toward her food

'You should write a story'
Kevin rolled over his white sheets to face his fiancé and smiled at her beautiful face while she slept. He watched her every small breath and studied every change that her face underwent with each breath. Her nostrils would flair the tiniest bit and her lips would purse a miniscule amount. Then, to his surprise, she spoke, "It's rude to stare", she said, giving in to smile which fought its way onto her face.

'You read it again?'
Kevin flicked over the last page of his favourite book for the 12th time. He enjoyed the tales of medieval war which spilled over its light tan-coloured pages. Kevin looked at the cover again, thinking of the tales of medieval war which flowed over all 497 of its pages, although the book, to Kevin's despair was beginning to get worn at the edges and even had a small tear at the top of the cover, just by the spine. The tear had occurred on a boat to Venice, Kevin enjoyed Italian architecture and had heard from a frie
Inspector Wolf The old lady was dead. I could smell it before I even got into the house. The whole place reeked of adrenaline, sweat, fear, copper and steel. He’d dropped her right in her living room. Chopped and chopped until she stopped moving. But I could tell I was getting close. This had been done in a hurry, and the killer didn’t have the time to clean up after himself like he usually did.
Across the room, the phone rang. The shrill sound set my teeth to grinding, but I ignored it. Instead I followed the killer’s bloody footprints into the back bedroom. He’d climbed out the window. If I hurried, I could catch up to him and end this disgusting spree he was on.
Then the answering machine kicked in. “Hi, Gramma! It’s Red. Sorry I’m running late. I kind of lost track of time. But don’t worry. I packed the picnic and I’m heading out the door right now. Love you.”
She’d been expec
